Pickpockets

Pickpocketing is one of Prague’s most common crimes. We are very sad every time we hear stories about someone getting their money, documents, camera or cell phone stolen.

- Do not carry large amounts of cash with you. Carry only one credit card in case you need it. Cash machines are plentiful in Prague and their screens always have an English/German language version

- Leave important documents in a safe deposit box at your room. You should carry your passport with you, but leave a copy of it at your hotel in case the original gets lost. Taking copies of your important documents is always a good idea when traveling.

- Be careful on crowded trams and subways, especially in the historical center of Prague. Know what's happening around you, try not to find yourself squeezed in a crowd between other passengers.

- Wear a money belt instead of a handbag. If you are carrying a handbag, always be aware of it. Keep it closed up and hold on to it in busy areas. Don’t take out your wallet or money in busy areas.

Money Exchange

What is the best way how to exchange your money:

1) There are plenty of Money Exchange Bureaus all over the town. We highly recommend check a couple of them, before changing money. There are some differences between the rates. All publish "0 % COMMISSION" but most of them refer this only to "SELL" and not to "BUY" transactions. So before exchanging your money always ask how much you really get for your currency. It is worth it ... NEVER change your money on the street, as these people usually cheat you with other foreign currencies (e.g. Bulgarian money).

2) The other way to get money is use an ATM. Banks will usually give you the best exchange rate of the day.

Taking a Taxi

Some Taxi drivers in Prague are crooks. Avoid stopping a taxi on the street. Always try to call directly to a taxi company – operators speak English:
AAA taxi - tel: 602331133
Profi taxi - tel: 844700800

Bars and restaurants

‚Dobrou chut‘ is what Czech say to each other before they begin a meal. It means ‚Bon appetit‘ or ‚Hope it taste good!‘ There are so many good restaurants that you won’t know which one to go first. There is also something for everyone in Prague’s numerous pubs and bars. Take a look at our tips:
